The first award that a new American Heritage Girl earns is called the ‘Joining Award.’  To make this fun and educational there is an optional lapbook designed to assist in completing the requirements of this award. Depending on your age, you may need some help from a troop leader or parent. Below is the link to the lap-book instructions, that includes an example and all the printables.  It doesn’t have to look exactly like the example – you are free to be creative!

Please note that you must memorize the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ as one of the requirements for the ‘Joining Award’ but it is not on the lapbook. So if you want to write it out somewhere on the lapbook that would be helpful. I’ve also included a link below to a ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ printable that you can use if you would rather use that instead.

When this lapbook is complete, please review the ‘Joining Award’ requirements (see link below) and have your parent initial that they have been completed. You can then present your lapbook to your Unit Leader as well as the troop if you wish.  Your Unit Leader will then complete the final requirement with you, and order your new badge!
